Horn speakers

Horn speakers are a type of loudspeaker that utilizes a horn-shaped enclosure to amplify and direct sound waves. The defining feature of horn speakers is their horn-shaped enclosure, which serves to efficiently channel and amplify sound waves produced by the speaker driver. The horn design allows for increased efficiency in converting electrical energy into acoustic energy, resulting in higher sound pressure levels (SPL) compared to traditional direct-radiating speakers. Horn speakers are known for their high efficiency, meaning they can produce louder sound levels with less power input compared to other types of speakers. This efficiency makes them well-suited for applications where high sound pressure levels are required, such as outdoor events, stadiums, and large auditoriums. Another characteristic of horn speakers is their controlled directivity. The horn shape helps to focus and direct sound waves in a specific direction, resulting in better sound projection and coverage over long distances. This makes horn speakers ideal for applications where sound needs to be directed towards a particular area or audience.Horn speakers typically have a characteristic frequency response that may emphasize certain frequency ranges depending on the design of the horn. They are often used for mid-range and high-frequency reproduction, although some designs can also cover lower frequencies. Horn speakers find applications in various settings, including public address systems, live sound reinforcement, outdoor concerts, stadiums, theaters, and large indoor venues. They are also commonly used in sound reinforcement systems for professional audio and musical performances. Horn speakers come in various designs and sizes, ranging from compact models suitable for small venues to large, stadium-sized installations. Some horn speakers are integrated into loudspeaker cabinets, while others may be standalone horn enclosures paired with separate drivers.
